New Site Page option missing from new drop down in Site Pages library

I had an issue where I could no longer create site pages in my site pages library, the option wasn't there although the content type was in the library.

The cause was an admin setting "Allow users to create site pages" which we had turned off when reviewing what users should be allowed to do in Office 365 and SharePoint.

To fix:

  • Go to Admin
  • SharePoint admin
  • Settings
  • Ensure "Allow users to create site pages" is checked
  • Restart your browser and re-login
  • Option should now be available

Our O365 Groups all have the standard SharePoint site with the modern experience. We have encountered the same issue with not seeing the Site Page as an option when clicking +New from the Site Page Library, we only see Web part page or Wiki page. However, we can see it if we click +New from the Home page. The Site Feature for Site Pages is activated and Site Pages is a content type in the Site Page library. Looking for any other reason why Site Page would not be available under the +New in the Site Pages library.
